Ch Ksar Angelica at Majenkir

3/10/98 – 3/10/10

Laika is our foundation. She came to us from Karen Staudt-Cartabona in 2001 after having been bred to Ch Greyhaven Sequoia, who had been visiting over the summer thanks to his generous owner, Susan Blais Jasperson of Emily, Minnesota. Sequoia had been brought East to be bred to our Ch Majenkir Daria Lizzie-Tish, but unfortunately the breeding did not take. Knowing that the breeding to Sequoia had been successful, Karen graciously allowed us to co-own Laika, and to let her come to live with us and whelp her litter here. That was the true beginning of our breeding program. We could not have asked for a better foundation or mentor.

Laika’s side movement was spectacular – wide open, powerful and floating and she was a very correct Borzoi with the all-important ideal shoulder that, through careful selection, we have preserved through her offspring. She finished her championship in very few shows with some very nice wins, including Best of Winners at a specialty.

Laika whelped her litter of 8 in December of 2001 without a hitch. It was a textbook whelping, and  she taught us a lot. Three of her puppies remained at the kennel, and all finished as very young dogs. See Zakh’s page, and Lola’s page.

Her daughter, Ch Majenkir Lady Camellia at Mikaje “Melli”, was bred twice, once to SBIS Ch Tiarra’s Rembrandt, and once to SBIS Ch Tiarra’s Majenkir Masterpiece. Several of these puppies finished their championships. See Taffeta’s page,  and Eva’s page.
