What We Do

Our commitment is to preserve the bloodline that was originally brought to this country by Joseph Thomas, namely the bloodlines of the Romanoff Borzoi from Russia. The bloodline has been preserved by Karen Staudt-Cartabona for over forty years, and our Borzoi are purposefully bred on Romanoff lines. For us, the bloodline is like no other, as it produces consistently loving temperaments and conformation according to the Borzoi breed standard, breathtaking movement, and soundness, and about as healthy as any breed of dog can possibly be.

They are truly living and breathing works of art.

Karen Staudt-Cartabona’s first bitch, Tanya, Ch. Tanya Majenkir of Kalevala CD, is descended from the Romanoff Kennel, a famous Borzoi kennel from the 1920s ultimately owned by Louis Murr, a famous AKC judge. His dog, Vigow O’Valley Farm was Vigow of Romanoff’s sire, and Vigow of Romanoff, was undefeated in the breed ring, with 21 Best in Show wins, was owned by and shown by Louis Murr.

If you study the Borzoi featured in the Valley Farm catalog from the early 1900s, you will see the same dogs living and breathing today here at Highmeadow Farm.

In terms of showing, we show our best Borzoi during the warmer months, and we love each one like family. We have handled and finished many champions, one remained in the top ten for several years and was #4 breed and all breed in 2005.

We have also bred ten litters since 2001, and continue with our breeding program today.
